Calgary, Alberta – Going back to school as an adult is something most of us can’t imagine. Elmer Half not only imagined it, he made it a reality. And thanks in part to a $2,000 scholarship from AltaLink that reality is a little bit easier.
“My spirit literally soared and I felt a tremendous amount of accomplishment,” says Elmer Half, Petroleum Engineering student at NAIT. “The news absolutely re-affirmed my commitment to my career aspirations, educational goals and resolved my commitment to succeed.”
AltaLink is pleased to announce that Elmer, along with three other students, will be receiving some much needed financial support this year. Of the 170 people who applied, Elmer Half was joined by Shey Eagle Bear, Cherie Willer and Alisa Sanregret. Both Shey and Alisa are studying medicine at the University of Alberta with Cherie attnding the nursing program at Grande Prairie Regional College.
“Being able to contribute to the educational goals of Aboriginal students is something we take great pride in,” says Megan Wolfinger, Communications Advisor for AltaLink and coordinator of the scholarship program. “Helping students fulfill their educational goals and contribute to the communities they are a part of is a great thing.”
AltaLink also offers six additional scholarships – the AltaLink Centennial Scholarships – which provide $2,000 each for post-secondary students across Alberta.
