- 113L Transmission Line Structure RelocationView ProjectStage: Construction
Region: Central WestA structure on AltaLink’s 113L Transmission Line is deteriorating and needs to be
urgently replaced. The proposed project is adjacent to AltaLink’s Ghost Substation
near the Ghost Dam berm.AltaLink is proposing to:
- remove one structure
- add two new structures
- 150L Transmission Line RebuildView ProjectStage: Construction Complete
Region: SWConstruction is complete on the 150L Transmission Line Rebuild, and we want to thank you for your patience and understanding. You helped us ensure that a safe and reliable supply of power is available for years to come.
Project background
Built in 1956, AltaLink’s existing 150L transmission line has reached the end of its lifecycle and will be rebuilt to ensure a reliable supply of power is available for years to come. The line runs from the west end of Calgary to the Stoney Nakoda Reserve in Rocky View County.
The rebuild includes:- rebuilding 27 kilometres of 138 kilovolt transmission line
- replacing the existing wooden H-frame structures with primarily steel monopole structures. Wood structures may be used in certain locations.
- removing and salvaging the existing transmission line
- 164L and 616L Transmission Lines RebuildView ProjectStage: Construction
Region: SEAltaLink's existing 164L and 616L transmission lines were both constructed more than 60 years ago and portions of both lines are located in a high-risk fire area. We are proposing to rebuild portions of these lines to ensure that a safe and reliable supply of power is available for years to come.
- 185L and 412L Transmission Line RebuildView ProjectStage: Construction
Region: SWAltaLink's existing 185L and 412L transmission lines were constructed more than 60 years ago and portions of both lines are in a high-risk fire area. Part of our wildfire mitigation plan includes strengthening our system and making proactive safety improvements so that it is less likely to contribute to igniting wildfires. We’ve identified theses lines as a high priority and are rebuilding portions of the lines to raise the safety and design performance to current standards.
The approved project is located approximately one kilometre north of the Town of Pincher Creek. It involves rebuilding approximately 5.5 kilometres of:
- the existing 69 kilovolt (kV) single circuit transmission line (called 185L)
- the existing 138 kV single circuit transmission line (called 412L)
Instead of rebuilding these as two separate lines, AltaLink will consolidate both of the single-circuit lines into one new double-circuit transmission line. The new transmission line will be rebuilt within AltaLink’s existing rights-of-way.
- 199L Transmission Line RelocationView ProjectStage: Consultation
Region: Central WestTo accommodate the Virginia Hills Road rest stop expansion project, AltaLink is proposing to relocate a portion of an existing 138 kilovolt (kV) transmission line called 199L. The project is located in Woodlands County, 37 kilometres west of Whitecourt, Alberta in N-20-61-15-W5 and NW-21-61-15-W5.
The relocation has been requested by Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors to expand the existing Virginia Hills Road rest stop on Highway 43.
- 54L Transmission Line RebuildView ProjectStage: Consultation
Region: SWAltaLink’s existing 54L transmission line was constructed in 1941 and has reached the end of its lifecycle. We are proposing to rebuild this line to ensure that a safe and reliable supply of power is available for years to come.
The existing 54L transmission line is a single circuit 138 kilovolt (kV) line that is located in the Town of Canmore, Banff National Park and the Town of Banff. The line starts in the Town of Canmore at the Canmore Substation, continues west through the Hamlet of Harvie Heights, and into the Banff Substation in the Town of Banff. This proposed project involves rebuilding approximately 24 kilometres of existing transmission line.
In October 2021, AltaLink began consulting with stakeholders on the portion of the proposed project that runs from the Canmore Substation to the Banff National Park boundary. Since then, we have gathered valuable stakeholder feedback and completed further engineering that has supported our project planning. We have made updates to what we are proposing along portions of the line in and around the Town of Canmore.
More information about the portion of the project in Banff National Park, including how to provide your feedback, is coming soon.
- 607L Transmission Line Structure RelocationsView ProjectStage: Construction Complete
Region: SETo accommodate the Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors (ATEC) Highway 3 twinning project, AltaLink is proposing to move, modify and replace structures along the 607L transmission line to allow for high load clearance. The proposed project is approximately 10 kilometres east of the town of Taber, in the Municipal District of Taber.
- 612L Transmission Line RelocationView ProjectStage: Consultation
Region: SETo accommodate the Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors (ATEC) Highway 3 twinning project, two sections along AltaLink’s 612L transmission line will need to be modified and relocated.
