AltaLink completed pre-construction activities from June 2023 to August 2024, and will now begin construction preparation work on August 26, 2024. This work is anticipated to be complete in December.

The transmission line rebuild is scheduled from January to June 2025. We will send information about the construction period and what to expect in advance.

Project background

Built in 1956, AltaLink’s existing 150L transmission line has reached the end of its lifecycle and will be rebuilt to ensure a reliable supply of power is available for years to come. The line runs from the west end of Calgary to the Stoney Nakoda Reserve in Rocky View County.

The rebuild includes:

• rebuilding 27 kilometres of 138 kilovolt transmission line
• replacing the existing wooden H-frame structures with primarily steel or wood monopoles
• removing and salvaging the existing transmission line
